TEEN DEAD IN WRECK - LOST CONTROL OF CAR ON RAIN-SLICK PAVEMENT
A teenaged girl was killed when she lost control of her car on rain
Slick pavement and hit a utility pole on East 10th Street last night, police said.
Christina Sue Hunn, 18, of Route 6, Cookeville, was dead on arrival at Cookeville General Hospital following the 10:57 p.m. accident, which occurred just beyond the Garden Center business near the Fisk Road intersection with East 10th Street, according to a report filed by Cookeville Police Officer Joe Greenwood.
Officer Greenwood said Miss Hunn was driving a 1986 Oldsmobile west on East 10th Street and said the car apparently hydroplaned on
the rain-slick pavement, ran off the road, and struck a utility pole.
The car hit the pole at the driver's side door, and Miss Hunn was
partially ejected and then pinned in the wreckage, Pumam Ambulance
Service records indicate.
Someone who saw the accident stopped at a nearby convenience
store and asked for clerks to call an ambulance, and police officers and medics reached the scene within minutes. Pumam Civil Defense Di-
rector Sam Smith said the Rescue Squad helped remove the victim
from the wreckage.
Miss Hunn, a 1989 graduate of Cookeville High School, was a student at the Cumberland School of Medical Technology here in Cookeville and had been studying there for about six months, planning to be a
medical lab technician, school officials said.
She worked part-time as a clerk at the Captain D's seafood restaurant
here and had worked there until 8:45 p.m. last night, restaurant manager Paul Farish said today.
She was a member of the basketball team at Cookeville High last
year, and Farish today described her as "a fun-loving kid who loved
sports."
"She was well known and was well liked," Farish said. "She had
worked part-time here for about 14 months."
Funeral mass for Miss Hunn will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas
Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 20.
She was the daughter of Ronald and Melanie Pound Hunn of Route 6,
Cookeville.
