Calvin C. Gillespie, 76

East Liverpool - Calvin C. Gillespie, 76, of East Fifth Street died at 3:55 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 1997, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Beaver, Pa., Dec. 14, 1920, a son of the late Avery and Bertha Lyon Gillespie. Mr. Gillespie moved to East Liverpool from Hookstown, Pa., 35 years ago. He was a craneman at the former Crucible Steel Co., retiring after 20 years. He worked as a toll taker at the Newell Bridge for the past seven years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis L. Howell Gillespie whom he married July 29, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. David (Debra) Colgrove of Toronto, Ohio; a son, Wesley E. Gillespie of East Liverpool; a step-daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Brindley of Daytona Beach, Fla., a step-son, Russell M. Smith of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley A. Gillespie. Services are pending at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family suggests no flowers.
