Obituary
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for Ronald James Darby, age 59, who passed away Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at University Medical Center in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be J'Irai La Voir Un Jour, Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross, and By Name I have Called You.

Mr. Darby was a native and resident of Lafayette. He was an avid softball fan and was a coach for the Men's USSSA Softball. Ronnie coached the USSSA team in 2000 and under his leadership they won the USSSA World Championship. His team just returned from Florida when they came out second in the ASA Softball Tournament.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Darby of Rayne; one son, John Curtis Darby of Rayne; one daughter, Melody Hope Darby of Metairie; step daughter, Raven Daigle of Rayne; two grandchildren, Shane Michael Darby and Taylen Daigle; his father, Irving Darby of Sunset; four brothers, Robert Darby and his wife, Lois, of Carencro, Roy Darby and his wife, Judy, of Cankton, Terry Darby of Lafayette, and Derwin Darby and his wife, Del, of Carencro; and two sisters, Annette Trahan and her husband, Russell, of Scott, and Jeanette Kidder and her husband, Robert, of Arnaudville.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Lagrange Darby, and one brother, Charles Darby.

Pallbearers will be Robert Darby, Terry Darby, Cory Darby, Shane Darby, Dwayne Bergeron, and Rusty Culotta. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Darby, Russell Trahan, Robert Kidder, Todd Thomas, Shane Thomas, Ricky Henry, Doyle Westbrook, Scotty Duplechein, Jason Dejean, Wade Venable, Jared Olivier, Mike Hall, Danny Mooney, Joey Cuccio, Greg Duplantis, and Ryan Leger.

Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue was is in charge of arrangements.
