NORTH HAVEN – Nancy E. Beverage, 45, died unexpectedly at her home.

Born in Rockland, she was the daughter of Bruce E. Sr. and Frances A. Robishaw Gamage. Educated in Rockland Schools, she was a 1978 honor graduate of Rockland District High School, graduating a year early.

Nancy had a great love of the coastal islands. For ten years she was a resident on Matinicus Island. In 1988 Nancy moved to North Haven. Her family remembers her as being from the sea. They said of her, she was their "mermaid." She found great pleasure in swimming in the frigid Maine ocean. She was always the first one to dive in, in the spring, and the last one out in the fall. She also enjoyed the yearly "lady's float" on North Haven.

For many years on North Haven with her husband, Nancy owned and operated the "Islander" Store. Her family said her generous spirit was evident in her work with the store. She often assisted other island residents in times of need with groceries and meals she would prepare for them. It was said by her family and friends alike, "Nancy had the heart of a saint."

On September 4, 2001, Nancy married at Mullen's Head, Vista View. The couple had shared 15 years together.

A women of many talents, Nancy had a gift for writing. Her daughter remembered the eloquence with which she wrote. She had also recently joined the North Haven Baptist Church Unity Guild. Although she already enjoyed cross-stitch she was excited to learn how to knit. Nancy's extreme passion was horseback riding.

One of Nancy's greatest joys was spending time with her family, including her extended family. Her son remembered her as young at heart and someone with a strong soul that would spread hope as far as her arms could reach.

Nancy was predeceased by her mother, Frances A. Gamage; and her step-sister Lynn Haskins.

She is survived by her father and his wife of Rockland; her husband, of North Haven, her son of North Haven, daughter of North Haven; her brother and his wife of Rockland; her sister of North Haven; her nieces and husbands all of Rockland; her nephews of South Carolina, and Rockland; her step-siblings whom she dearly loved, of Union, and Florida; and Warren; her sister-in-law with whom she was very close, of North Haven; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
