Norman Tangerose, 74, of Kirkland, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born Sept. 19, 1936, in Shabbona, the son of Eli and Gertrude (Gunderson) Tangersose, he married Donna J. Lawrence April 9, 1955, in DeKalb. Starting as a tool-and-die maker in DeKalb, Norm worked in various tool-and-die shops before starting United Skilled Inc. He retired in 2006 after 35 years owning his own business. Norm loved nature and loved to hunt. He was a sports fan and especially loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Norm loved his children and grandchildren. He was known for always handing out chocolate kisses.He is survived by his wife; three sons, Norman (Edna) Tangerose of Saguache, Colo., Bob (Donna) Tangerose of Camp Point and Roger Tangerose of Castle Rock, Colo.; one daughter, Becky (Lowell) Mattison of Kirkland; 13 grandchildren, Jeremy Tangerose, Jason Tangerose, Jonathon Tangerose, Nathan Mattison, Heidi Mattison, Angela Schroedle, Kristen Mattison, Andrea Tangerose, Austin Tangerose, Jessica Tangerose, Ashley Tangerose, Dustin Tangerose and Ronan Tangerose; eight great-grandchildren, Trevor, Chandler, Kylie, Autumn, Danni and Adyson Tangerose, William Mattison, and Tyler Munch; and two sisters, Elsie Prather and Beverly (Bill) Landis; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Robert Tangerose and Don Barker; and sister, Lenore Houghtby.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Quiram Kirkland Chapel, 309 S. Fifth St.,, with Bruce Shaw and Greg Swensen officiating, and burial at Charter Oak Cemetery, Kirkland. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, and from 12-12:45 p.m. Thursday before the service. Memorials can be directed to the family for a fund to be established.
