Gordon James Cook, 75, was welcomed into the arms of our savior Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home overlooking a glistening new snow Saturday morning.
Born in Milwaukee to Edward and Adeline (Sette) Cook on Dec. 31, 1942. He attended Horicon High School and graduated with the class of 1961. In September 1963, he married Betty (Betsy) Kelm and raised four children in Horicon. After the passing of his wife, Betsy, he married Linda Bischoff in February 1995 and together with her enjoyed their retirement on a serene lake in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. Gordy, as he was known to his friends and family, spent 31 years in management at John Deere Horicon Works, from which he retired. He was president of Rock River Hills Golf Course in Horicon and was instrumental when the “back nine” was constructed and spent many hours on the course enjoying the game, winning Club Champion and Presidents Cup Champion in 1981. Gordy enjoyed many hobbies, including card playing, especially poker, sheepshead and bridge. Gordy was a savvy fisherman with numerous trips to Canada shared with family and friends. He also shared the family tradition of deer hunting “at the 40” with great memories and stories created each year. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ as his savior and he passed the faith on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an excellent example of how to follow Christ in his everyday life.
Gordy is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children and grandchildren; son, Todd (Anne) Cook of Beaver Dam, with children Casey (Tyler) Schmude and Zachary (Tonya Steinbeck); daughter, Faye (James) Jaraczewski of Trophy Club, Texas, with children James II, Betsy (named after her Grandma Betsy), Catherine, Josephine and Margaret Mary; son, Tim (Julie) Cook of Waupun, with children Ben (Macy), Kaytee (Adam) Gogert and Ethan; and daughter, Sara (Doug) Wilson of Waupun, with children Elizabeth and Nathan. Gordy was blessed to have enjoyed time with two great-grandsons, Kayden Gogert and Landon Schmude. Also survived by his brothers, Carlton (Elaine), Howard (Roberta), and Ronald (Kathy); sisters-in-law, Fern (Ted) Lamers and Nancy (Bill) Phelps; brothers-in-law, Boyd (Maureen) Kelm and Roy (Alma) Kelm; many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Adeline Cook; in-laws, Elmer and Edith Kelm and Leroy and Ruth Schindel; his first wife, Betsy (Kelm) Cook; grandson, Joseph Wilson; sisters-in-law, Faye (Kelm) Morgan and Sue (Schindel) Metzdorf; and brother-in-law, Fred Schindel.
Gordy will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 9, at Our Savior Lutheran Church of Eagle River, Silver Lake Drive at 11 a.m. with visitation preceding service beginning at 9:30 a.m. A celebration of life will be shared with everyone on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Horicon Hills Golf Club, 3000 Main St., Horicon, from 1-4 p.m. Internment to be held as a private ceremony at a later date.
