Christian F. Martin died at his home in Naperville, January 12, 1897, of kidney trouble, and the funeral took place January 14, 1897. Services were held at his house and also at the Dunkard church near Naperville, where he used to preach the faith of that society. Mr. Martin was born in Erie county, Pennsylvania, January 27, 1818, and was married to Miss Sarah Rhodes, of Erie County, New York, in 1840. In 1849 the family came west and purchased a 200 acre farm adjoining the then village of Geneva; his brothers, David Martin, now of Geneva, and Henry, of Kansas, and their father purchased farms near Turner. Most of Mr. Martin's children were born at Geneva, and the place he sold to E. Danford; then he moved to Turner, and then to Naperville, where he served as local minister at the Dunkard church for many years. Mr. Martin left eight children, all married, with families, and owners of fine farms in this county. The children are as follows: David Martin, Henry and Daniel W. Martin, all of West Chicago; Mrs. Adam M. Glos of Wayne; Mrs. Allen Fairbank, Mrs. Judd Fairbank, also of West Chicago; Mrs. Harvey Barkdoll of Warrenville; and Mrs. A. Fry, of Naperville. All of the children were present at the funeral, and the remains were laid to rest in Oakwoods [sic, recte Oakwood] cemetery, West Chicago, beside his wife, father and mother who all died several years ago and who were among the pioneer settlers in this part of the county.
