She was a native of Salvo, but had lived in Wanchese for the past 12 years. Mrs. Meekins was a retired merchant and school teacher.
She was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Patsy Robinson Meekins ([should be "Midgett"], widow of Ulysses S. Meekins and a member of Wanchese Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons: Harry E. Meekins of Atlanta and Ralph and Macon Meekins of Wanchese; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Swain of Manteo; two sisters, Mrs. C.A. Rose of Norfolk and Mrs. J. Macon Emory of Creedmore; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
~~~~~~~~~~~MANTEO - Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Midgett Meekins, who died Sunday afternoon en route to Albemarle Hospital, were conducted Tuesday afternoon in Wanchese Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Pullman, pastor, and the Rev. C.W. Guthrie, retired Methodist minister. "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Sweet By and By" were sung by the church choir. Mrs. Rena Tillett accompanied at the organ. The casket pall consisted of red and white carnations and fern. Pallbearers were Willie E. Midgette, St. Clair Midgette, Chesley Midgett, Sr., Dallas Midgette, Wayland Baum and Warren O'Neal. Burial followed in Manteo Cemetery.
