Mrs. Isbell was born on Dec. 25, 1932, in Arab, Alabama, the daughter of Joseph Toss Betterton and Princie Henreitta Hyatt Betterton. She was married to Garrett Finley Isbell who passed away on May 22, 1971.
She retired from AmSouth Bank where she was a Teller for many years and she was a member of Arab First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers and decorating her home as well as cooking for family and friends. She was nominated for the Earth Angel Award for her service to others. She loved children and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years at New Friendship Baptist Church and then at Arab First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her Children: Karen Lynne (Michael) Barron of Arab, Jimmy Duane Isbell of Arab and Donald Edward Isbell of Arab; Sisters: Ila Ruth Cooley of Arab and Ruby Claudette Compton of Morgan City; Brother: Joseph Toss Betterton, Jr. of Arab; Grandson: Hunter Barron of Arab; Host of Nieces, Nephews, other family and friends.
Preceded in death by Parents: Joseph Toss and Princie Henreitta Hyatt Betterton; Husband: Garrett Finley Isbell; Sister: Jeanette Handschumacher; Brothers: Garland Betterton and Glenton “Snap” Betterton.
Funeral Service will be Tues. Nov. 29, 2016, at 12 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with Bro. Robert Bright, officiating.
Burial will follow in Brookwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tues. from 11 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers will be: Joe Handschumacher, Mike Cooley, Richard Cooley, Garwin Betterton, Joseph Betterton and David Isbell. Honorary Pallbearer: Nolan Isbell.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Marshall County, Shepherd's Cove or the family requests that you honor Mrs. Isbell's request by visiting a local nursing home resident in her honor.
