William H. (Henry?) Scott was probably born in Ireland, but there is a possibility that he was born in Scotland. He was married in 1766 to Rebecca Orr in the Diocese of Armagh (Episcopal), probably in County Tyrone, Ireland.

William and Rebecca Orr Scott came to America on the ship "Dolphin", and landed at New Castle, Delaware on September 6, 1796. There are no ship's records to be found in those early years in Delaware. There was a fire in 1824 which burned the entire water front, and all records were destroyed. This date of landing was given in a biography of their son, Thomas Scott which appeared in the book "Old and New Monongahela".

William and Rebecca had ten children, some of whom may have emigrated here before their parents. William and Rebecca purchased land in Nottingham TWP, Washington Co., PA on January 9, 1802 from Andrew and Elizabeth Kentner. This land is described as being on the headwaters of Mingo Creek and it was near the Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church. The Scott family was closely identified with that church for many years.

Rebecca and William are buried side by side with sandstone slab markers. As of 1965, William's was still quite legible. Rebecca's was in poor condition, but legible.

Their children were: Frances (Fanny), John, Mary, Thomas, Alexander, Jane, Joseph Orr, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Angeline.
