William Edward Ellis, a bachelor, Esquire, from 11 Trinity College, son of Malcolm Ellis, an Officer in the Court of Bankruptcy, and Edith Anne Graves, a spinster, from 19 Clanbrassil Terrace, Dublin, and Valentia, Co. Kerry, daughter of James Graves, a Superintendent A A Telegraph Co. were married on 6 September 1877, at St. Peter's Church [C of I], Aungier Street, Dublin.

Her father worked for The Anglo-American Telegraph Company which, after two failed attempts, laid the first Trans Atlantic Telegraph cable from Britain to America & Canada in 1866.
One of their Cable Stations was at Valentia Island, Co. Kerry.
