He was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Amherst, and lived most of his life in Lorain.

He graduated from Amherst High School in 1941 and from the Oberlin School of Commerce in 1947.

During World War II, Bailey served in the U.S. Army, and he received the French Government's Normandy Invasion citation and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with a silver star and the American Campaign medal.

He was employed by General Motors in Elyria for 31 years, retiring in 1980 as a foreman in the plating department.

Bailey was a 55-year member of Stonington Masonic Lodge 503 of Amherst, a 32-year member of Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland and a member of GM Retirees; and was a former member of El Rey Grotto. He enjoyed golf and had been an Oberlin Golf Club member for 20 years. He collected watches and enjoyed travel and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nora (nee Pries); son, Bruce of Lorain; and two grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruby (nee Wilford) Bailey; brothers Glen Earl and Walter; and sister, Gwendolyn Cloud.

Friends may call Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 Fifth St., Lorain. Graveside services will be Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
