(NOTE: In the book MOTHER MAY YOU NEVER SEE THE SIGHTS I HAVE SEEN, by Warren Wilkinson, the story of the 57th Regt in the last year of the Civil War, there is excellent information about Capt Gird on pages 78 and 440)

Son of Henry Hatton Gird III and Elizabeth Lewis Wheeler.
The Girds came to USA about 1790's in their own ship and a large amount of gold. They settled in Alexandria, VA, Washington DC area then moved on to NJ and NYC. A large family with widespread connections throughout the country.
