Dr. James H. Peabody, one of the oldest and best known physicians in Omaha, died Sunday morning about 10 o’clock at St. Joseph’s hospital. His son Dr. John Peabody was with him when he died.

Dr. Peabody was taken ill some months ago, relinquished practice and went to St. Joseph’s hospital, for a slight operation for relief. He remained at the hospital until about a month ago, then making his home at his former residence on Capitol avenue, until a week ago, when he went back to the hospital for an operation for prostatis. He had not the strength to wholly recover.

Dr. James H. Peabody was born in Washington, D. C., March 7, 1833. In his boyhood he was a page in the United States senate. He studied medicine with Dr. T. J. Cathcart of Columbia college and Dr. J. E. Morgan of Georgetown college, District of Columbia, from which he graduated in 1860, on his 27th birthday. In those earlier years he knew many men of national reputation. Dr. Peabody married Miss Mary V. Dent in Louisville, Ky. She was a native of Maryland, and died in August, 1805, leaving one son, John Dent Peabody, who survives him, and has come from Florida, to be in attendance at his father’s bedside.
