Babette Hertel was married at age 15 to Johann Seyschab in Nurnberg, Germany. In 1910, the came to America, passing through Ellis Island on June 30th of that year. She had 5 children, Charlotte, who died as an infant, Marie (Zimmer), Magdalena (Chambers), Elizabeth (Gaeckle) and John. She was co-owner of the Perry Kennel, Buffalo Road in Harborcreek, with her husband. She was well known as a judge of dog show and as an importer of dog from Germany. Her kennel was one of the first in America to breed German Shepards and train them for police work. She also established and operated a tea room and the Perry Cocktail Lounge on the premises. She was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. ........ One can easily conclude that she was a feminine entrepreneur, years ahead of her time.
