Mrs. Gilbert Tornell, 32 years of age, residing about 7 miles north of Center City, died Tuesday evening at 9:15 pm at the St. Croix Falls Hospital. Her demise terminated a period of suffering of over a year's duration from the incurable cancer illness.
The departed had been in poor health most of her life and a year ago an operation was necessitated. She was operated on last May. Her condition had improved somewhat during the past summer. She failed rapidly last fall and was sent to the University Hospital, Minneapolis, where she spent several weeks. During the last two months she had been confined to bed. Last Friday she was taken to the St. Croix Falls Hospital where another operation was performed Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Tornell, whose maiden name was Viola Olson, is a daughter of Axel Olson of Lindstrom and was born in this village, Sept 1, 1901. She was educated and raised in the community and in the year 1920 married Gilbert Tornell of Center City. They have one son DeWayne, age 13. Besides her husband and the young son, she leaves to mourn her loss her father Axel Olson and one brother, Burdette Olson of Lindstrom besides many other close relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Westberg Undertaking Parlors 10:30 Saturday morning with C. Westergren of Minneapolis officiating. Pallbearers will be John Peterson, Henphin and Harold Fried, Wallace Stenberg, and Herbert Valleen. Burial will be made at the Fairview Cemetery.
