Obituary for Walter A. Bennett.

The remains of the late Walter A. Bennett arrived from St. Louis at 1:40 p.m. this afternoon. A short funeral service was held at the Episcopal Church followed by interment in Columbia Cemetary. The deceased was an ex-confederate soldier and a mason. He lived in Columbia many years ago and married a Miss. Phillips of Boone County. He moved away from Columbia many years ago and has since made his home with his daughter Mrs. Edith Bennett Gardner in St. Louis. Mrs. Gardner accompanied the remains of her father to Columbia for burial.

Walter was a member of Gen. John Bell Hood's Texas Brigade.

Prisoner of War: 1864 to 1865
Paroled: 15 June 1865 Joliet, Illinois

Walter attended the 50th year reunion of Civil War Veterans at Gettysburg in July, 1913.
