Rev. Carl E. Edwards, 80, of Jumping Branch, died Tuesday morning at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 29, 1925 at True, WV, he was the son of the late Harden and Stella Canterbury Edwards. Carl retired after 42 years of service as a Tool Car Foreman, for the CSX Corporation. He was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of WWII having served with the 106 Infantry Division and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a P.O.W.- M.I.A. for more than four months. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post 4500, the American Legion, the D.A.V., was founder and president of the Veterans Museum of Southern WV and served on the Board of the VA Medical Center at Beckley.He was a member of the Bluestone Baptist Church at Jumping Branch and had served as a Pastor to several churches in and around Summers Co. from 1954 until 2000. Carl was recognized in who's who of Country Pastors. In 1996 he was appointed Democrat of the Year. Carl served Summers Co. as a member of the Board of Education and as a member of the Democratic Executive Committee.Preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Pettrey Edwards, a son, C.E. Edwards II, a grandson, Michael Shane Richmond; four brothers, Chester, Harden Jr., Willie and Elmo Edwards; and one sister, Anna Albert.Survived by his wife Elizabeth "Libby" Stanley Edwards; three daughters, Patricia Ann Edwards of Hinton, Cheryl Lynn Edwards of Fairlea and Nathania Dawn Pachuta and husband Anthony of Sasebo, Japan; one son, Gregory Paul Edwards of Lavalette, WV; six grandchildren, Pastor Derrick Leslie and wife Melissa of Hinton, Michael Shawn Richmond of White Sulphur Springs, Stacy Matos and husband Manny of Virginia Beach, VA, Stephanie Boswell and husband Matt of Ronceverte, Jamie Watkins and husband Bartholomew of Barboursville and Leah Edwards of Lavalette; nine great grandchildren, Hunter and Dylan Leslie, Madison and Cameron Burchette, Cristian Matos,Breanna and Darris Boswell and Sarah and Rebekah Watkins; two brothers, Estel Edwards and wife Bertha of Orlando, FL and Arthur Edwards of True; three sisters, Alice Boring and Betty Ellison of True and Stella Falvo and husband Tony of Princeton.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Bluestone Baptist Church at Jumping Branch with Pastors Bill Fox, Roy Lee Honaker Jr., and Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton from 6-9 P.M. Thursday and one hour prior to services at the church.Pallbearers: George, Richard, Gary, Phillip, and John Edwards and Mike Mines. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the DAV.
