Paul Bernard Meyer Jr. of Lubbock departed this life on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at the age of 84. He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Belpre, Kan., to Paul Bernard and Christina (Gales) Meyer. He married Roberta Montgomery May 22, 1954, in Belpre, Kan. The couple then moved to Lubbock in 1960.

Paul served in the U.S. Army 5th Cavalry Regiment 13 during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Purple Heart. He was a member of Christ the King Cathedral Church, 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, LULAC, Serra Club, and Order of the Purple Heart.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of more than 56 years, Roberta; daughter, Paula Shields and husband Steve of Morton; son, Steve Meyer and wife Kathy of Mesquite; sister, Mary Jean Hirsh of Kinsley, Kan.; brothers, Jerry Meyer of Belpre, Kan., and Mike Meyer of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Becky Hardin and husband Casey of Shallowater, Tiffany Shields of Frisco, and Courtney, Lauren and Jacob Meyer of Mesquite; two great-grandsons, Cash and Hayden Hardin of Shallowater; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Gales Meyer; and one son, John Michael Meyer.

Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Christ the King Cathedral Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Christ the King Cathedral Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
