Bruce Henry Stone, Sr., age 69, of 7383 Caratoke Highway, Jarvisburg, NC, peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus after a valiant fight with cancer on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Britthaven Nursing Home in Nags Head, NC. Mr. Stone, a native of Robeson County, NC, was the son of the late Henry Ridley Stone and Maude Fogleman Stone and the husband of Ruth Aydlett Stone of the residence. He was a retired plumber, a veteran of the US Army, and a member of Powell's Point Baptist Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Bruce Stone, Jr., of Cleveland, OH, and Greg Stone of Conyers, GA; two step-daughters, Elizabeth Cody of Jarvisburg, NC and Katie Weeks of Chesapeake, VA; a step-son, David Newbern, Jr., of Garden City, KS; three sisters, Carol Stone Eckerson of Hampton, GA, Sandra Stone Newbern of Powell's Point, NC, and Diane Stone Owens of Harbinger, NC; two brothers, Donald Hugh Stone, Sr., of Powell's Pont, NC, and Raymond Eugene Stone of Nags Head, NC; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great granddaughter. He was pre-deceased by a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be Monday, April 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Powell's Point Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Hemingway officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence and immediately after the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
