Jan Peter was born at the croft Aslida Lider under Grimmestorp in Härja,Skaraborg, Sweden in 1802. He was christened in the Lutheran Church and his parents were Anders Jonsson and Maria Andersdotter. Jan Peter married Britta Maria Johansdotter on 12 May 1830 at Härja.

After Jan's marriage he became a miller at the mill on the farm Grimmestorp. Here he lived at Mjölnaretorpet (the millers cottage) in the parish of Härja. In 1837 Jan Peter and family left Mjölnaretorpet and moved to the crofters holding Skinnmon in Härja.

In 1850 the family moved to the farm Långeryd owned by Anders Moberg and in 1856 the family moved to a crofters holding called Sågruder.

On 6 March 1857 the family moved to the parish of Valstad and settled at the crofters holding under the farm Storegården-Back where Jan Peter was a tenent farmer. Then sometime between 1861 and 1868 Jan Peter turned this croft over to his son Johan Pettersson who then provided for his parents. But in 1870 Britta and Jan Peter moved to another croft in Valstad under the farm Skulgärden where Jan Peter died in 1872.

Jan Peter and Britta had 5 children: sons August Pettersson Frid, Johan Pettersson, Levin Pettersson and daughters Gustafva Pettersson Larsson and Mathilda Pettersson.
