Julie K. Simpson, 66, passed away on December 8, 2010 at home with her family by her side after fighting a life-long illness. In 1986 they moved to Las Cruces, NM and later to Ada, OK until their retirement upon which they returned to NM and live in Santa Teresa.

Julie was known as a NM advocate for establishing laws to help the disabled. She was invited in 1992 to join Jerry Lewis and represent the state of NM at the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and later received a personal achievement award from Mr. Lewis. Julie challenged life and lived with Muscular Dystrophy for 54 years. Julie attended New Mexico State University where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Journalism and two Master's degrees. Julie was a teacher and loved working with her students as well as being very involved with music, piano and loved to sing.
