Nadine Lucille Hogan was born November 21, 1935 at Brandon, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Agnes Gunn Kearns.

Her early years were spent at Brandon where she attended school.

Nadine was united in marriage to Mark Hogan on April 7, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa.

They moved various times while Mark was in the service until moving to Evansdale in 1953. They moved to their farm east of Winthrop in 1963, where they raised their nine children: Joan, Carol, Mark, Dean, Robin, Christine, Pat, Michelle, and Melissa.

In 2007 they moved to Cardinal Court in Independence.

Nadine was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Winthrop for many years. She enjoyed taking care of elderly persons and especially her husband Mark. She was an avid card player, loved her large family and spending special time with them all. Recently she enjoyed learning to quilt.

Nadine entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at University Hospitals in Iowa City following a sudden illness. She was 75 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers: Howard, Edward, Lee, Richard, Russell, and John Kearns; and one sister Mildred Chapman.

Survivors include her husband Mark of Independence; six daughters: Joan (Dennis) Sommerfelt of Walker; Carol (Mike) Williams of Merrill; Robin (Ron) Kress of Quasqueton; Christine (Stewart) Bagley of Independence; Michelle (Don) O'Brien of Belle Plaine; and Melissa (Kevin) Bergom of Belle Plaine; three sons: Mark (Jackie) Hogan of Cedar Rapids; Dean (Sue) Hogan of Independence; and Pat Hogan of Mediapolis; twenty two grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren; four sisters: Norma Jean (Wilbur) Young of Waterloo; Bev (Carl) Scott of Dysart; Loretta (George) Micken of Arizona; and Diane Lambirth of Arizona; two brothers: Kenneth (Judy) Kearns of Arizona and Clarence (Shirley) Kearns of Oskaloosa; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Winthrop with Father Aloysius Vorwald officiating. Music provided by organist Ann Slattery and vocalists. Gift bearers will be her granddaughters: Jennifer, Natasha, Angie, Amanda, Lori, and Kayla. Casketbearers will be grandsons: Daniel Sommerfelt, Luke Williams, Mark Hogan, Mitch Sperfslage, Nicholas Hogan, Jeff Kress, Johnathan Bagley, and Derek O'Brien. Honorary bearers will also be grandsons: Eric Williams, Matthew Hogan, Tyler Hogan, Jordan Hogan, Jason Kress, Christopher Bagley, Tim Bagley, and Cody Bergom. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Winthrop. Friends may call from 1 PM until 5 PM Sunday at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop with a scripture service at 5 PM and until 10:30 A.M. on Monday. The Fawcett Funeral Home of Winthrop assisted the family with arrangements.
