Major League Baseball Player. For five seasons (1944 to 1948), he played at the outfielder and first-base positions with the Washington Senators, Philadelphia Athletics and St. Louis Browns. Born George Alvin Binkowski, he played eight years of Minor League and independent baseball (1936 to 1943), before breaking into the Majors on September 23rd, 1944 with Washington; he appeared in 5 games that season. He was given the opportunity to reach the big league level, due to the shortage of players serving in World War II (Binks himself could not serve in the military due to deafness in one of his ears). He enjoyed his most productive year in 1945, when he was among the American League leaders in hits with 153 (eighth place), doubles with 32 (second place tie with Snuffy Stirnweiss of the Yankees), and runs driven in with 81 (fifth place). In 351 career games, Binks compiled 277 hits with a lifetime .253 batting average. Following his baseball career, he worked as a mechanic.
