The funeral of Gregory Shane Sternberg, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sternberg of Reinbeck, was held Tuesday at 2 p. m in the Erickson Funeral Home in Traer The Rev. Robert T Winter of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, uncle of Mrs. Sternberg, officiated. Mrs. John Jaquis of Reinbeck was the soloist and Ruth Thomas the organist Caring for the flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Jere Ewing, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Lewis. Pallbearers were William Young, Everett Wyatt, James Winter and L. H. Wagoner. Interment was in Buckingham cemetery.
Gregory Sternberg was born June 21, 1963. An operation in August of 1964 indicated the presence of leukemia. The boy was taken to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minnesota, and was a patient several times since in St. Mary's hospital, Rochester. He had been feeling quite well for about 3 months and enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas at home Gregory was hospitalized at Allen Memorial in Waterloo for two days before his death on Sunday. He had been in Rochester for a routine check, which indicated a return of his illness. He was brought home Saturday and was stricken seriously ill a short time later. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Logan of Traer and the paternal grandparents arc Mr. and Mrs. Lester Sternberg of Traer. Memorial contributions to the Leukemia Research Fund have been made at the Lincoln Savings Bank in Reinbeck. John Sternberg is the high school commercial instructor and wrestling coach at Reinbeck
