The last of eight children born to Joseph & Emily Catherine "Katie" (Shepler) Clevenger of Rushville, Rush Co IN, Harvey was only nine months old when his father was murdered. With no income to provide for them, the children were sent to children's homes.

From there, the children were relocated to other homes or to the custody of good samaritans. Three of the children were eventually returned to their mother: Gladstone, Gladys & Catherine. Frances was adopted by the MacDonald family.

At such young ages, this family of siblings endured much tragedy. However, they persevered admirably, setting fine examples in adulthood. They kept near each other, providing love and support only the closest of families can.

Harvey grew to a fine young man and married Mary Louise Newman on 6 Apr 1936 in Rush Co IN. They had three children:
1) Living Daughter
2) Living Son
3) Danny Lee Clevenger (1944-1952)

Sadly, Harvey's wife Mary died while the children were still very young. For a short time, Harvey placed his children with family. Then, taking all three children, he moved to CA, perhaps for a job opportunity. In CA the youngest child, Danny Lee, was killed while crossing a street, just one month after his eight birthday. Harvey never remarried and passed away in 1975.

It was such a pleasure to discover my relation to Harvey. He was such a good man who endured more than most. Rest in Peace dearest cousin. Know you are loved and missed.

The following news article was graciously provided by Shannon:
