Dorine was born Nov. 8, 1929. She was the youngest daughter of Tony and Veronica Aldera, and sister of Mary V. Reed. She passed away Dec. 4, 2010, after complications from a brain tumor.

Dorine grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, where she received her education. She graduated from Drake University where she met the love of her life, Tom Lydon. Tom and Dorine were married 58 years. They have five children, 17 grandchildren, and their first great-grandchild is on the way. Tom and Dorine have been very active members of Holy Family Catholic Church for the past 55 years. Dorine touched the lives of so many people in the community through her many years of teaching school at Marysville Elementary and Holy Family School, providing dance lessons to young people, and being part of her children's clubs and school activities. Dorine's greatest gift to us all was caring for others. There aren't too many people around that haven't been touched by some small act of kindness or a pot of soup from Dorine. She was a quiet soul with so much to give. God and prayer were always a part of her daily life. She loved to play games with grandchildren, cook, dance, and celebrate family times together. Because of Tom and Dorine's strong marital bond, they created a big loving family who will carry on her caring and kind ways.

Dorine is survived by Tom, her husband of 58 years; children, Mike Lydon (Juanita), Renee Taylor (Bob), Becky Bochsler (Dave), Marty Lydon (Jovanna), and Kathy Houf (Danny); grandchildren, Jacob Lydon (Lindsay), Jessie Nelson (Matt), Graham Lydon, Max Lydon, Mariah Untalan, Steven Taylor, Michael Taylor, Nathan Bochsler, Nicole Harding (Robbie), Jeff Bochsler, Bret Bochsler, Sarah Wheatley, Annie Wheatley, Jimmy Houf, Kaylee Houf, Geoffrey Houf, and Daniel Houf; sister, Mary Reed; and nieces and nephews.

Because of our mom's strong faith, we know that she will continue to be blessed in heaven and bestow many blessings on her family here on earth.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home. Recitation of the rosary will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, followed by celebration of Mass in Holy Family Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Dorine Lydon Holy Family School Memorial Fund, Holy Family School, 3732 S.E. Knapp St., Portland, OR 97202.
