Lynn was the son of Edward Shepherd and Emma Barbara (Koerner) Bacon. He married Ruth Welch in Harlowton on July 6, 1940 and they had five sons and four daughters.
In 1942 Lynn began working for the Milwaukee Railroad, transferring to Deer Lodge in 1946. He also transferred to Bloomington, Minnesota; Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Seattle, Washington where he retired in 1980 as Assistant Manager of Purchasing Materials. He and Ruth returned to Deer Lodge in 1987.
Lynn was the main person responsible for getting the Milwaukee Railroad officials to donate the E-57B locomotive to the City of Harlowton.
