Son of Johann Jacob Spindler II and Maria Anna Margaretha Stallmann

Jacob Spindler and his brother, Louis, became the leading spirits in the founding of the Bethel congregation. They came into contact with the Rev. Dr. G. a. Meuhlmeier, who at that time was minister at Immanuel Church. The result was that the latter conducted services from time to time in different private homes in the vicinity. Soon a congregation was organized in Feb. 10, 1862. A constitution was adopted and on March 31, the same year, the congregation was incorporated to secure the legal rights of a Reformed Church.

The founders were, Jacob Spindler, Louis Spindler, Conrad Humke, Martin Roethel, Andrew Papendick, Karl Koeser, George Arnold, Henry Glaeser, Henry J. Schneider, George Maurer, Fred Staeffler, August Wickersburg, George Roethel, and Ernestine Gerlach.

Mr. Johann Jacob Spindler died of old age weakness Thursday afternoon in Town Herman. He was 82 years old and came from Guntersblum, Hessen Darmstadt. He and his wife came to America in 1850. He is survived by his wife and 8 children.
