November 1948

Death came to Cornelius Wooden "Neil" Wyatt at the age of 69 years and 24 days at his home in Paducah Thursday afternoon at 2:00 November 11, following an illness of four weeks. His physicians pronounced the cause of his death to have been cancer of the kidneys.

Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Paducah from the Lindsey funeral home and at East End Cemetery here at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. L.L. Spurling of Hopkinsville, officiating. Burial was made in East End Cemetery with the Lindsey Funeral Directors of Paducah in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wyatt was born in Trigg County October 19, 1879, the only son and oldest child of the late Gus and Ellen Davis Wyatt. He spent the greater portion of his life in the southern part of Trigg County but moved to Paducah some 15 or 20 years ago. He always maintained his friendship ties in Trigg County and came back to visit on various occations.

On December 23, 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Virginia Myrtle Simmons who survives him. There were 10 children born of this union, two having died in infancy. They were Jack and Lurline.

In early manhood the deceased united with the Delmont Baptist Church and remained a member there until his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt with their eight living children made a happy and hospitable home all during their 50 years of marriage, always graciously entertaining a host of friends of both young and aged alike. Mr. Wyatt enjoyed his companionship with his many friends and loved to have as many as possible around him at all times and equally as much so his friends loved to be near him and those of all ages enjoyed his pleasant company conversation.

While living in Trigg County Mr. Wyatt operated a general country store and managed a good sized farm. Since going to Paducah he has been employed as night watchman for the International Shoe Company for a number of years.

Surviving are his widow, eight children, Mrs. Lamont Sivills, of this County, Mrs. Coy Minton, Mrs. Joe Fox, and Dillie Wyatt of Detroit, Mich; Mrs. Fenton White, Akron Ohio; Miblurn Wyatt, Homer Wyatt and Jagoe Wyatt of Paducah; five sisters, Mrs. Jack Neally and Mrs. Brethitt Campbell of Hopkinsville, Mrs. Willie Burns and Mrs. Luther Simmons of Christian County and Mrs. Flave Shelton of this County. He also leaves eight grandchildren and one great-grand son, little Buddy Sivills of this city, and a host of more distand relatives and friends.

The huge crowd from all parts of Trigg, Christian and McCracken Counties who attended the last rites, spoke for the esteem in which he and his family were held by all who knew them.
