Francis Frank R. Walsh, 88, a retired lieutenant on the Boston Police Department passed away Dec. 7, at Southwood at Norwell after a long illness. Frank was born in Dedham, educated in Boston schools and went on to graduate magna cum laude from Boston State College at the age of 50. A resident of Weymouth for 24 years, he previously lived in Dorchester. Frank served as a Boston Police Officer for 42 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp., American Legion Walsh Post, Dorchester, the V.F.W. and the Amvets. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Beloved husband of Mary M. (McPherson) Walsh of Weymouth and the late Jeanne (Sawtelle) Walsh, he was the devoted father of James M. Courtney of Dorchester; grandfather of James F. Courtney of Dorchester; brother of Joseph Walsh of Falmouth, Regina Walsh of Wakefield and the late James Walsh, Dorothy McGuire, Geraldine Bowman and Anna Davis. Funeral from the South Weymouth McDonald Funeral Home, 809 Main St. (opposite South Shore Hospital), at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Funeral Mass to follow in St. Francis Xavier Church, S. Weymouth, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Friday, 3-7 p.m. Interment at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. www.mcdonald-funeralhomes.com.
