In 1830 he came with parents & 3 brothers while 2 brothers remained in France. After 45 days on the ocean the family settled in Gorham, Yates Co., NY where in the following spring the mother died followed by the father 2 yrs later. John & his brothers worked in Wheatland & years later in Avon and Honeye Falls in grist mills. His brothers married and 2 settled in Ohio while John A. settled in Bennington in 1844. His brother Christian settled in Attica.
