Charles B. Haley, 88, of 1048 Hopper Road, Williamstown, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Sweetbrook Health Care Centers.

He was born in Williamstown on May 24, 1922, a son of the late George W. Haley and Mary (Haydock) Haley. He attended schools in Williamstown.

He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He received World War II victory Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, and the European Theater of Operations with two stars. Mr. Haley was in charge of the honor guard for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt which protected the President and attended parades, funerals, and other occasions. Mr. Haley was involved invasion of Normandy as a gunner's mate.

Mr. Haley was an union carpenter for the local union and was involved in the construction of several projects in the area including Haley Development in Williamstown, Mt. Greylock High School and the Shaker House. He was a great story teller and loved woodworking and living in the beauty of the Hopper in Williamstown.

His wife, Edith (Babcock) Haley, died May 15, 1988.

Survivors include two brothers L. Richard N. Haley Sr. and Robert E. Haley, both of Williamstown, and several nieces and nephews including Carl Sweet and Nettie Mitchell who Mr. Haley was a father to. He was predeceased by two sister and two brothers: Marion Sweet, Helen Sweet, George H. Haley, and James W. Haley.

Funeral Services will take place on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown.
Burial with full military honors accorded will follow in Westlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPElS, 521 West Main Street, North Adams.
