Joseph F. Galanti, formerly of Newtown section of Hanover Township, died Monday evening, Dec. 14, 2009, at Smith Health Care, Mountain Top. Born in Berwick, April 7, 1927, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Vito Galanti. He was educated in the Berwick school district and was a supervisor at CertainTeed Corp., Mountain Top. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class during World War II and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Campaign Area American Medal. Mr. Galanti was a member of St. Leo/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley, and other civic organizations. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Ann Mazza, on October 24, 2001. He is survived by brother-in-law, John Mazza; sister-in-law, Rose Wallace, both of Newtown section of Hanover Township; brother-in-law, Joseph Mazza, Wisconsin; and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Thomas J. O'Malley will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley, PA 18706. Arrangements are by Lehman Family Funeral Service, Wilkes-Barre. Published in Times Leader on December 16, 2009
