Gladys Lemer, 88, of Drake, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at St. Aloisius Care Center in Harvey.

Gladys Bromley, daughter of George and Mary (Nissen) Bromley, was born Feb 10, 1922, at Round Lake Township, near Funston, N.D., where she grew up and attended country school. At the age of 18, after losing her mother, Gladys aided in raising her brother, while helping with the farm tasks. Gladys and her sister Toodie would collect arrowheads they found in the sand while herding cattle in the summer.

On Nov. 29, 1944, she was married to Frank Lemer at Drake. They lived in Spokane, Wash., for a short time before returning to the Drake-Anamoose area, where they farmed, raised cattle and chickens, and milked cows. In 1965, following their farm auction, they moved into Drake, where Gladys continued to reside until entering the St. Aloisius Care Center of Harvey in July of 2007.

After moving to Drake, Gladys worked for Dr. Hordinsky, the Drake Bakery and the Morris Hotel. She and Toodie also did housecleaning and painting for many families in the Drake area, and sold Watkins and Willex products.

Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, David D. Nehrenberg American Legion Post #32 Auxiliary, and the Drake Senior Citizens Club. Gladys and Frank loved to travel, especially to visit their families in Montana and South Dakota. She enjoyed her weekly visits to her daughter's family farm, south of Drake. As longtime members of the Harvey Eagles Club, they enjoyed dancing, socializing, playing bingo and cards.

Gin rummy was a favorite with her sister, Toodie. Gladys loved to dress up in her high-heeled shoes. Crocheting was a pastime hobby.

She is survived by: four sons, Roger (Joyce) Lemer, Arlyn (Evelyn) Lemer and Carey (Sharon) Lemer, all of Lolo, Mont., and Joedy (Vickie) Lemer, of Great Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Beverly (Mike) Vinton, of Drake, and Dell Rae (Steve) Hausauer, of rural Kief; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine "Toodie" Ziebarth, of Harvey; two sisters-in-law, Katie Bromley Olson, of Harvey, and Esther Bromley, of Minot; and her goddaughter and special niece, Joyce Thorpe, of Minot.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, who passed away Feb. 24 of this year; her parents; and four brothers, Lester, Clarence, Raymond and Bernard.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10:30 a.m., in Trinity Lutheran Church, in Drake.

Burial: Drake City Cemetery.
