Stanislaw F. "Steve" Galok, 92, of 68 Jordan Avenue, Hinsdale, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at the home of his daughter, Stephanie Bordeau, in Cheshire.

Born in Pittsfield on November 12, 1918, the son of Paul J. and Marcianne Gerwaski Galok, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a January 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

A millwright for much of his life, Mr. Galok was employed by Crane & Co., Inc. for seventeen years form where he retired in 1983. Prior to that, he was a millwright at A.H. Rice for thirty-three years. Mr. Galok had also been a milkman with the Pittsfield Milk Exchange for many years, and had worked at General Electric Company at one time.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Hinsdale. Mr. Galok had served the Town of Hinsdale as a selectman, constable, and volunteer fireman. He was a member of the Hinsdale Lions Club. He also participated in Elder Hostel for many years. He was an avid ice fisherman who also enjoyed playing golf at Bass Ridge, candlepin bowling, and playing the harmonica. He also enjoyed cutting, stacking, and heating his home with wood, as well as woodworking. He loved dogs, especially, Dobermans.

Mr. Galok's wife, the former Helen E. Kondey, whom he married on April 14, 1941 in St. Joseph Church, died January 30, 1990.

Mr. Galok is survived by six daughters, Sandra A. Grassetti and her husband, Anthony, of Agawam, Marcia K. Viner of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Roberta F. Grandshaw and her husband, H. Thomas, of Pittsfield, Elena Rainville and her husband, Philip, of Rochester, New Hampshire, Stephanie Bordeau and her husband, Joseph, of Cheshire, and Mary Beth Galliher of Pittsfield; three sons, Paul J. Galok, Sr., and his wife, Laurie, of Lanesborough, Timothy S. Galok and his wife, Linda, of Pittsfield, and Joseph P. Galok and his wife, Kimberly, of Bennington, Vermont, as well as twenty six grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, two nephews, and a niece. He was pre-deceased by three sisters, Mary Aitken, Julia Calderella, and Sophie Zatorski, and a nephew, William Aitken.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church in Hinsdale, celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY Funeral Home.
