Death came to Lemuel James Banister at 2 a.m. Saturday at Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville, where he had been taken Wednesday before. Sugar diabetes caused his death from which he had been suffering for twelve years.

Although Mr. Banister had been in poor health for these years, he maintained his position as Deputy County Clerk and had only been away from the office a week and a half at the time of his death. He had very efficiently filled this position for twenty four years.

The son of the late John C. and Augusta Stone Banister, the deceased was born December 3, 1886 in Trigg County, where he spent his entire life. He was a valuable county official, outstanding citizen and had acquired a host of friends.

Mr. Banister was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church having united with the Siloam Church at age of thirteen, later moving his membership to the local church where he was a member at the time of his death.

Also he was a faithful and loyal member of the Masonic Lodge for 39 years. He served as an official 39 years. He served as an official most of this time except for the past few years when his health prevented his taking an active part in its activities.

November 29, 1911 he was married to Miss Julia Bridges, who survives him. There were three children, Lemuel Jr., Mrs. Bill Parrent and another son, who died in infancy, born to this union.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Goodwin Funeral Home, with Rev. John Hamilton officiating assisted by Rev. Shirley Spahr.

Interment was made in East End Cemetery. The member of the local Masonic Lodge had charge of the rites at the grave. Pallbearers at the funeral home were 3 brothers and 3 brothers-in-laws, Jack Banister, Arthur Banister, Wesley Banister, L.E. Bridges, Joe Bridges and N.C. Bridges. Masonic pallbearers were Z.F. Bloodworth and Perry Hopper, Alonzo Bush, Carloss Allen, Oties Moorefield and Travis Stone.

Flower bearers were his nieces Mrs. Joe Graham, Mrs. Frank Freeman, Mrs. Dalton Majo, Mrs. Willard Wood, Mrs. Bob Withers and Mrs. Thomas Carney.

Survivors are his wife, two children, L.J. Banister, Jr., and Mrs. Bill Parrent; four brothers, Arthur, Jack and Wesley Banister of this County, and Sam Banister of Oklahoma City, Okla; four sisters, Mrs. L.E. Bridges, Mrs. Johnnie Alexander and Mrs. B.O. McGee of Trigg County and Mrs. Ewing Compton of Evansville and six grandchildren.
