William A. "Bill" Downey, 60, of Quarryville, PA died unexpectedly at Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

He celebrated 25 years of marriage this past September to Michelle L. Maile Downey. Born in Phildelphia, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Wiemer Downey.

Bill was employed by Exelon for the past 40 years, most recently in the capacity as a Performance Assessor in Nuclear Oversight at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station. Bill served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Quarryville.

William was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach, traveling, attending his children's activities and riding his Harley.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Bree wife of Michael Gillespie of Lancaster, and Chloe Downey of Quarryville; two sons, Sean and Brandon Downey, both of Quarryville; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail Gillespie; a brother, Robert husband of Linda Downey of Parkside, PA; and two sisters, Betty Ann Iosca of Brigantine, NJ and Donna O'Keefe of Ellenton, FL. Bill will be greatly missed by all of the people whose lives he has touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 955 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA with the Rev. Robert J. Moratelli as celebrant. Friends may call at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at the church on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Downey's memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
