Douglas was born to Sheriff Allan and Gertrude (Robbins) MacDonald.Lieut. Douglas was decorated for one of the most daring aerial exploits of World War Two..He was given the Distinguished Flying Cross Douglas along with Colonel Bernt Balchen searched for two days to rescue some ferring command flyer's off Greenland's Ice Caps. Douglas and his commander made a 16 mile hike in sub-zero temperatures.They were able to save all the stranded men.Douglas was killed only a year or two later when his plane went down in a swamp in Cherry Point N.C. Sadly it took 2 days to recover him from the swamp.Douglas has a VFW Hall named after him in Lansing Mich called the Douglas MacDonald Musicians Hall. Douglas never married.
