Carrie is thought to be the wife of Julius Columbus Batts and the mother of Beatrice Batts Austin, Rosa Mae, Emma Lee, Mary R and Carrie Batts. Her youngest child was born about the time Carrie was admitted to the asylum.

If so she is likely the daughter of Edward Hinton and Della unknown of Edgecombe county. She is a sister to Mancy F Hinton and Edward Hinton, Jr. Their mother appears to have died between 1915 and 1920.

Carrie worked as a domestic in Edgecombe county. She was hospitalized at Cherry 7 yr 9 mo 10 days and died of pulmonary tuberculosis. By then her husband had married Eliza Thomas and they moved to Halifax county.
