Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Walter A. Wilson, a prominent 77 year old tobacconist and former resident of Trigg County, who died about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Services were conducted at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at the grave in Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville by Dr. A.C. Johnson, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and by Dr. D.M. Spears, of Elizabethtown, Mr. Wilson's son-in-law.

Members of the Hopkinsville Tobacco Board of Trade, were honoary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Phil Roberts, Duane Snider, Mogan Boyd, Clarence Boyd, Seldon Y. Trimble IV, and Wallace Henderson.

Mr. Wilson was born in Trigg County on August 3, 1871, the son of William and Lucy Boyd Wilson. He was educated in the school of Wallonia, Major J.O. Ferrell's school in Hopkinsville and old Bethel College in Russellville. He lived in Cadiz as a young man and it was here that he was married in 1895 to Susan Bacon, daughter of Dr. T.L. Bacon and Mrs. Betty Edwards Bacon, of this City.

Around the turn of the century the Wilsons moved to Hopkinsville and Mr. Wilson has been associated with the city's tobacco industry most of the time since moving there. He was connected with the Old Regie Company, the American Snuff Company and the United States Tobacco Company. He was local manager of the U.S. until his retirement two years ago.

Since October, 1948 Mr. Wilson has been a partner in the Wilson-Page Warehouse.

Mr. Wilson had a life long interest in the farmers of the community and in the rural development of this part of the state. He was known for his generosity, unselfish spirit and warm humanity. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church. He had a great host of friends in Trigg County and Cadiz as well as in all the adjoining counties.

Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Spears, of Elizabethtown; Mrs. James Henderson, St. Mary's Mo., and Miss Emma Wilson, Hopkinsville and five grandchildren, Mrs. Shirley Castele, of Campe Lee, Va., Mrs. Donald Lail of Lexington, Mrs. Fontaine Armistead of Marblehead Mass., Mrs. Leon Walter of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Walter Bacon Wilson of Hopkinsville.
