James Gilbert Babb age 90, of Carmel, Indiana passed away on December 8, 2010 in Carmel, Indiana.

Mr. Babb was born on November 8, 1920 to the late Charles and Bessie Babb in Clear Creek, Indiana.

James enlisted in the U.S. Navy cadet program for aviators in 1942. Graduating in September of 1943 as a Naval Aviator, He served in the Pacific aboard the carrier U.S.S. Makin Island. James was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Gold Stars in lieu of his second and third Air Medals. His duties were flying the FM-2 Wildcat fighter in the battles of Leyte-Luzon, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Employed by Western Electric and Bell telephone Laboratories as a product designer, he did designs on the dial in hand telephone set, touch tone dials and the coin telephone set. James retired in 1984 with 32 years of service.

Surviving James are his three children and their spouses, Jan G. Babb of Carmel, IN, Mark R. Babb and wife Susan L. of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Susan L. Babb-Lutick and her husband Donald of Dixfield, ME. James is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
