Harold was the son of William and Florence Mary Riney Payne of Utica, LaSalle County Illinois. He was a Tall man, slim built with the Dark Irish looks of Black Hair and Brown eyes. He was especially close with Brother's Hobert, William and sister Catherine. He walked Catherine's daughter Jean down the aisle when she married (father deceased)and Mom, Sharon Ann Payne Whetzel was the Flower Girl. Harold and wife Anna Marie Bendekovic Payne married young and divorced when the children were young. He was a mechanic for United Airlines. The family lived in Chicago and later after the divorce he remained in Chicago and later lived in Michigan. Harold and Ann had three children: Harold E. Payne Jr., Gerald Payne who died in infancy of small pox and Sharon Ann Marie Payne Whetzel. Ann and the children moved to Newton Falls, Ohio. Although the visits from their father were less frequent Sharon and brother Harold spent summers visiting grandparents in Utica. Harold married for a second time for a short period of time but do not know who she was. Harold like Ann lived a hard fast life..brother William always took care of him and made sure he worked and took good care of himself. His best years following were walking his daughter down the aisle June 17, 1967. In the wedding pictures you could see..he was a very handsome man. And during the years following watching his first three grandchildren born. He lived with daughters family for awhile in Warren, Trumbull County Ohio. He died at 56, at Hillside Hospital in Howland, Ohio of complications of TB after being flown in on a Medical flight from Chicago. He is at peace in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Trumbull County Ohio.
