Janet Jane Zick was born the daughter of Lester and Helena (Oetken) Bonar on Tuesday, September 27, 1921 in Burlington, Iowa.

Janet was raised on a cattle ranch in Sturgis, South Dakota. In 1939 her family moved to Newberg, where they lived on a farm in the Fernwood District. She graduated from Newberg Union High School in 1940. After high school, Janet attended and graduated from a business college. On September 3, 1946 she married Herbert Russell Zick. They made their home in Newberg with their three children. She worked as chief PBX operator at the Old Multnomah Hotel for five years. Janet then worked for the Lloyd Center Sheraton Hotel for ten years. She also worked at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Hotel for ten years where she then retired.

Janet was an avid gardener, and enjoyed traveling. She always did her crossword puzzles in ink. Cooking and sewing were also among the many things she enjoyed taking the time to do. Janet very much enjoyed the time that she spent with her grandchildren.

On Sunday, November 21, 2010, Janet Jane Zick died at her residence when she was eighty-nine years, one month and twenty-five days of age.

Her husband Herbert R. Zick; two brothers Jack and Guy Bonar (Find A Grave Memorial # 384695); and three grandchildren preceded her in death.
