Services Set For Mrs. Barnett, Fred Bertoncini Death Takes Two Well Known Local Pioneers

Madera residents today mourned the death of two widely-known residents of this area.

Mrs. Marion Agnes Barnett, 57, who I died Sunday and Frank Bertoncini, 73, who succumbed Saturday.

Mrs. Barnett, passed away suddenly at her home following a brief illness. A native of San Francisco she had resided in Madera for the past 54 years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church here and had the distinction of being the first woman elder of the Church.

She was a past president of the Madera County Home Department in which she had been very active and was a member of the local Parent Teacher Association in which she had held several offices including the presidency.

Mrs. Barnett was also a member of the Madera County Welfare and Probation Board. She is survived by her husband Fred W., two sons, John R. and George M. and two daughters, Mrs. Helen Deetz of Pleasanton and Mrs. Hazel M. Parks of Selma. Six grandchildren also survive. They are John and Brian Parks of Selma and George, Marjorie, Emily and Roberta Barnett of Madera.

Funeral services will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church and burial will follow in the Arbor Vitae cemetery. J,ay Mortuary is in charge.

Bertoncini, died at his home Saturday after a lingering illness. He was a native of Italy and had resided in Madera for the past fifty years where he was engaged in farming until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Angelina, four sons, Joe, John, Ray and Donald and one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Grangnani of Tranquillity, five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Rosary will be recited tonight at Jay Chapel at 8 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a. m. in St. Joachim's Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
