Anchorage Daily News November 15, 2007:

Jack Ludwig Stahancyk, 62, died Nov. 8, 2007, at home in Palmer due to complications related to Parkinson's disease. A memorial service was held at Lazy Mountain Bible Church in Palmer. The Rev. David Kenny officiated. A celebration of life was Jan. 26 in Prineville, Ore. Ushers for the service were Sgt. Mark Petersen, 1st Sgt. Frank Gerk (Ret.), James Neill and Shawn Hayes.

Mr. Stahancyk was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Prineville. He graduated from Boise State College in 1967 with a bachelor's degree. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 and then in the Oregon National Guard from 1969 to 1981 before serving in the Alaska National Guard from 1981 to 2005, when he retired. He came to Alaska in December 1981, settling in Palmer. He was a member of Lazy Mountain Bible Church and enjoyed woodworking, air boats, hunting, fishing and volunteering his time for others. His family said: "He was a deeply devoted Christian with a love for his heavenly father. He was an inspiration to others. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for others. He did not have a cross bone in his body."

Jack is survived by his wife, Judy of Palmer; sons, Jack M. Stahancyk of Spanaway, Wash., Bryan K. Stahancyk of Meacham, Ore., Steven J. Stahancyk of Post, Ore., and Kevin R. Stahancyk of Redmond, Ore.; stepsons, Kristopher and Reven Wood of Redmond, Wash.; mother, Melva Stahancyk; and sisters, Rita Holland and Linda Ackler, all of Prineville. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewie Stahancyk, in 2003. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Parkinson's Research Foundation, 420 Beach Road, No. 701, Sarasota, FL 34276 or the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Research Foundation. His ashes were interred at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Valley Funeral Homes and Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer assisted the family.
