Oberlin-Died at Oberlin, Sunday January 25, 1880, Rachel M Merwin, wife of D. P. Merwin, in the 74th year of her age. Mrs. Merwin was born May 9th 1806, in Hancock, Berkshire county, Mass. both she and her husband were baptized and confrimed in the Episcopal church at Elyria in the year 1842. She has proved herself one of the most faithful communicants and efficient laborers. Her counsels, so discreet and so wise, have been always most highly aprreciated by her fellow-workers. We have often marked her great love for the liturgy of the church. Its language seemed to have been largely committed to memory, portions of which were among her final utterances. As the sun of her life was for the last time setting on earth, catching up, ash she seemed to have done, and repeating during those few lucid moments the very words which we had in the earlier part of that day been chanting in this holy place. What a blessed arid sure proof we have here, that what we learn to sing as song and say as prayer over the dying, are the very songs that become the fitting anthems whith shich to pass through the dark valley of the shadow of death, and to meet Him who opens the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
