Robert Tingay

---Wednesday afternoon, July 9, while assisting in securing his hay crop, Robert Tingay accidently pinched the forefinger of his left hand by catching it in the horse hay fork. It was but a slight flesh would, no attention was paid to it and he continued work. Friday he had the finger dressed at home, but Saturday forenoon the hand and arm were paining him so much he was obligated to stop work, and sent for his physician. Blood poisoning had already set in, and, although everything which could be was done to prevent it resulting fatally at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 16th.
---Robert Tingay was born April 29th, 1833 at Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England, the oldest of a family of ten children, two of whom and the father preceded him across the dark river. In 1855 he came to America, following his brother Thomas who came two years before. They lived in Black Forest, Clinton Co., Pa., working at lumbering until 1864, when they came to Marshall, and have made their home here since. March 27, 1868, Robert married Miss Mary E. Jakeway, in this city, and four children have been born to them, the youngest being now seven years old. All survive him.
---In 1887 the two brothers visited several weeks with their mother and other relatives in England, but returned better pleased than ever with their adopted home. They have always lived together or near each other since Robert came to America, were greatly attached to each other, and both have always enjoyed the highest respect of their neighbors and acquaintances.
---Robert leaves another brother, John, of Homer township, who came to this country in 1864, and mother, four sisters and one brother in England.
---The funeral was held at the family residence, on north Linden st., this afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.W. Curry, pastor of the Presbyterian church, of which society Mr. Tingay was a consistent and honored member. The attendance was very large, and the remains were laid in the final resting place in our beautiful Oakridge cemetery.
