John Richards, son of John W. and Ann James Richards, was born in Hirwaun, South Wales, April 21, 1882, and passed from this life at his home in Chariton, Iowa, on April 26, 1942, at the age of 60 years and 5 days.

He was married to Dora Oliver in Ottumwa, Iowa, and to this union one son, John Oliver, was born and who met an untimely death on September 5, 1926.

Mr. Richards came to this country on October 31, 1886, and his boyhood was spent in Lucas, Monroe and Wapello counties, Iowa. He followed the occupation of mining and while performing his duties he met with a serious accident on June 19th, 1916. From then until the time of his death he was an invalid.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; two sisters, Mrs. C. P. Huxford, of Chariton, and Mrs. Henry Whimpey, of Alpha, Ill.; and two brothers, W. E. Richards and Ben Richards, both of Chariton.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Fred E. Miller, of the Methodist church, were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Beardsley Funeral Home, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
