James W. Beatty, 72 years old, died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. L. Craig, on the Hopwood road, near Uniontown, following a lingering illness of heart disease.

The deceased was a son of Colonel James and Mary Shearer Beatty of Dunbar township and was former editor and owner of the Jeffersonian and the Old Democrat, leading Fayette county newspapers of many years ago. He was a Democrat all his life.

Mr. Beatty is survived by five children as follows: James A., Bethlehem; C. Edgar Beatty, Pittsburg; Mrs. Walter L. Craig, John C. and Mary E. Beatty, Hopwood road; one sister, Mrs. Emma Shearer, Leisenring, and three grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Craig home, with Rev. E. A. Hodif of the Third Presbyterian church of Uniontown, officiating. Six nephews of the deceased will be pallbearers.
